Securad Inc. was founded in 1995 to plan the construction and operation of a management facility for used nuclear fuel, offering disposal (permanent storage) or retrievability (temporary storage), if the last option becomes economically sound. The plan also calls for transport of used fuel by waterways rather than road or rail.

Securad will bring together the best experts in the field: geologists, geophysicists, professional engineers, management experts, and security advisors. Securad will employ the best experts in mining, construction, nuclear technologies, high-security transportation of hazardous materials and environment protection.

Securad promotes the idea of Canadian suppliers of nuclear fuels, the main source in the world, leasing, rather than selling, nuclear fuel to civilian power plants. The used fuel could then be returned to storage underground ‘where it came from’. By retaining ownership, and severely tracking any transportation, better control could be maintained over the proper use of the fuel. Unauthorized use would allow Canadian and US authorities to immediately investigate.

As uranium comes from the ground, it can safely be put back where it came from.

Climate change is a threat to mankind and the environment. Increasing the use of nuclear power could reduce the use of fossil fuels as the world’s primary baseline energy source. Wind and solar power are both valuable sources of power, but both are intermittent.
