NUCLEAR
Some Web sites related to used nuclear fuel or other nuclear issues
SKB – Home
SKB is a Swedish corporation that has been researching the concept of a deep repository very similar to the Securad plan. It has covered more ground than all other similar government organizations in the world. SKB plans to start disposing of its used nuclear fuel for the very long term in 2018. Their repository is planned in massive granite and it is accessible by sea just as with Securad.
Canadian nuclear safety commission
The Canadian Regulatory body that oversees all nuclear matters in Canada.
Alsos Digital Library - Radioactive Waste
While reading some of the resources available from that Web page, people should not confuse used nuclear fuel with waste. Used nuclear fuel still contains almost 97.5% of usable energy which could be adapted for use in types of nuclear reactors other than the PWR design: it cannot be considered as waste, and should not be referred to with that inappropriate terminology.
International Atomic Energy Agency - Internet Directory of Nuclear Resources
An agency of the United Nations. Their website features information on the peaceful use of nuclear science for energy production.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission
The oversight agency for nuclear power in the United States. A good diagram of a PWR nuclear reactor can be found on the ‘Reactors’ page to understand how they function.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission - Used Fuel Heat Generation Calculation
For those of you who are engineers or proficient in mathematics, this is something Securad will be doing later in the engineering phase of its repository, specifically to define the way the containers holding the used nuclear fuel will be positioned in the repository to avoid excessive thermal gradients in the surrounding rock.
Radwaste Solutions
A relevant publication from the American Nuclear Society.
World Nuclear Association
An excellent website with very well organized information about nuclear matters – the whole spectrum is addressed.
UNEP Earthwatch - Radioactive Waste
Another environmental-oriented relevant link from the wide resources of the United Nations.
RadWaste.org
Lots of stuff that is relevant - except for the waste wording - or simply interesting to read.
Cosmic origins of Uranium
What?>>> Not just uranium is cosmic in origin. As matter of fact, all elements other than hydrogen come from nuclear fusion cycles inside stars or are formed – for the elements heavier than iron in atomic weight – in supernova explosions.

RENEWABLE ENERGIES
Hydroelectricity
Hydroelectric Power – The New-York Times
A good simple definition of hydroelectricity. On the same page of the New York Times Web archives, you'll find links to pages about other renewable energy technologies.
Wikipedia also provides an excellent explanation of hydroelectric power.
We also encourage you to visit and investigate the various existing dams and links featured at Wikipedia's " "List of largest hydroelectric power stations" page : fly over the largest hydroelectric dams in the world!
Ontario Power Generation hydroelectric resources
OPG has done a superb job of presenting its entire portfolio of hydroelectric power generation stations. Provides a good overview of average size hydroelectric power stations (in the 10 MW to 50 MW).
If you want to learn more about hydroelectricity, we suggest that you make Google searches with keywords "Hoover hydroelectric dam", "James Bay hydroelectric dams", "Cabora Bassa hydroelectic dam", "Itaipu hydroelectric dam". You can also search with "US small hydroelectric power stations/plants", which will give a fair idea of hydroelectric power stations ranging from 500 kW to 10 MW, but with an obvious shortage of images from the existing base of power stations in that range.
Tidal energy
After you have visited the New York Times' Tidal and Wave page (…) , if you want more, you can make Google searches on with keywords "Rance tidal energy", "Severn estuary tidal energy" and "Bay of Fundy tidal energy". You'll find at the top of the displayed results the most interesting material available on the topic.
